The Pirates! Beard Weevils
A normal day in the Aardman Digital office is when I’m asked to hand-draw a beard for a weevil to run through, and not just any beard, the Pirate Captain’s beard. And what would this weevil eat, ham of course! Average day :)
So, that’s what I did! We (with the amazing tech skills of Mr Tom Milner) created this ridiculously silly, fun, mad, and slightly trippy game for The Pirates website. The ham speeds the weevil up to help him escape from the soapy water that is gaining on him, and of course the cheese makes him groggy, the bone slows him, and the broccoli makes him fly…all standard I think you’ll find :)
Have a play if you fancy some feeling like you’re in a strange, beardy, mad land!
The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!
So, The film is out and it’s super dupe (if you haven’t seen it yet, I can’t recommend it enough! Good ol’ British giggles!)…and his means, ace new website and games! woop!
Here in Aardman Digital, along with Sony, we’ve have created this lovely site of Blood Island with animated characters, fun games, and (my fave) a moving ship background, which WILL make you feel sick…sorry!
The games are a fun mixture of Pirate pelting, peg-leg stomping, Polly-saving madness, and I’m proud to say I worked on one of the maddest games we’ve done, Beard Weevils! Have a play :)
WOW, what a bloomin’ lovely surprise from my old university…Pompey!!! :)
Thanks guys!
Congratulations to alumni Sarah Matthews for being part of the team who won a Bafta for her work with Aardman Digital

NOV 2011
Aardman Digital’s new game is out for the wonderful Mr Tony Robinson! His new series of books; Weird World of Wonders, have been transformed into an online adventure, where you can join Tony and Nits the dog as they gallop headlong through time, pointing out all the most important, funny, strange, amazing, smelly and disgusting bits! It’s history but not as you know it!
The game is super fun, beautifully illustrated and the voice-overs are hilarious, so go and have a play, it’s what Tony would want you to do :)

RTS Awards, Bristol
On Thursday Aardman Digital were lucky enough to go to the RTS (Royal Television Society) awards, AND to be nominated for 3!
We ended up winning ‘Best On-screen game’ for Championsheeps, which is an awesome set of games based around Shaun the sheep. We had a super night, well done team, totes proud ;)
PIRATES!
Here’s the BEAUTIFUL trailer for the new Aardman movie, Pirates, which I’ve been doing some digital, beardy, gamey bits for over the last few weeks! More details to come :)
And 2011, how could we forget this bad boy…
Aardman digital won 2 FREAKING BAFTA’S :) for these little beauts, the Tate Movie Project, and for the Wallace and Gromit; World of Invention website, two projects I am very proud to be a part of! Let’s hope 2012 is equally as super!
And last, but certainly not least… Deadly Scramble!
Fast-paced, fun and educational, this game is different to the others as it’s a question and answer game. You have to beat the tide by jumping through the jungle, answering questions about Deadly animals on the way! And give you’re brain a rest in between levels, there’s a ‘button bash’ to help Steve climb up a tree before the tide gets him! fun and fast!
I’ve absolutely LOVED working on these games, not only because I’m a fan of the show, but the content is so interesting that I felt like I learned a lot. Also, it was really enjoyable creating rich designs for this subject because there’s so many themes you can work with, and nothing says adventure like a jungle! :)
So, second of our new games for Deadly…Deadly Planet!
Definitely one of the most beautiful games we’ve created, with amazing backgrounds and animations created by Sun & Moon, the detail is just amazing!
You can play the ‘Plains of Tanzania’, ‘The Redwoods of California’, or the ‘Jungles of Borneo’, which are all stunning to look at! You ARE Steve (nice!) and your aim is too climb, run and jump your way through the levels to photograph a specific animal, whilst avoiding deadly ones in the process!
Fun and beautiful…AWESOME (as Steve would say!) :)
I haven’t had chance to blog about our (Aardman Animations) new games for CBBC…DEADLY DEADLY DEADLY! We’ve all gone a bit Deadly 60 (Live & Deadly) mad recently, not only because the programmes are AWESOME and really interesting, but also the epic Steve Backshall presents them (he’s the go-to man for Deadly animal knowledge!) So, here’s the first… Deadly Dash 2
It has the same ‘run away from deadly animals, jump over obstacles and photograph them’ tasks as the first Deadly Dash, except all new wiked animals and scenarios! Check out those crab animations, ‘cough’ first thing I’ve ever animated ‘cough’ :)
If you like Deadly animals, Steve Backshall, and fast-paced fun…then head over and have a play
(btw….I still can’t complete the 2nd level, and I designed it!!!)

So, a little embarrassing, but there’s a little blog post I did on the Aardman Animations website about…well…moi! Just talking about how I got into this industry, and what I do day-to-day at Aardman. Have a read if you fancy it and want to know what a junior designer at Aardman gets up to :)

Some statty stat goodness from aardman digital…our year summed up! :)
A story-telling book by many of the wonderful artists from Aardman Animations, with a very British theme! So excited I was asked to be a part of it :) More to come…
